[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]meditating-by-the-lakeI am a student of numerous contemplative traditions. I’ve studied under Richard Rohr, Cynthia Bourgeault and James Finley in the Living School for Action and Contemplation and in 2019 I will be completing an MA in Contemplative Education at Naropa University.  As an activist I am very drawn to contemplative practice and deeply value it as an internal practice, so often lacking in western religion. It balances out the outward action of activism with a quiet inner life practice of letting go toward building greater awareness of our ego. I believe the practice of contemplative justice is deeply restorative and I strive to bring this practice to my context as an activist.

“Until you unveil and take ownership of your own inner thoughts and responses, outer behavioral changes will not last long, and are often bogus signs of transformation.” -Richard Rohr[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I am a member of the Association for Contemplative Mind in Higher Education, an initiative of The Center for Contemplative Mind in Society. I was honored to be invited to speak at the 2018 national conference and to be invited back to present a subsequent webinar on my presentation on Contemplative Resistance. You can watch that here and also take a look at the accompanying pdf document, if you would like to learn more about it![/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”” align=”right” title=”Contemplative Resistance Webinar”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

    Hello Holly,

I was searching the net for an image of contemplation for inspiration for my morning meditation, and was brought to your site. I have been on the contemplative path for a couple of years now, and, funny thing, I find myself believing less and less in coincidences. So I decided to leave you a note since we seem to have a lot in common. I have read almost everything Rohr has written and I firmly believe he is a true prophet for our times. Write back and let me know what’s going on!

    Hi Holly,
Trying hard to contemplate justice for right wing American hardliners who killed 8 people in the Syrian air force base yesterday for a crime they had not commit.
If there was any justice in the world, all who conspired it and those who implemented it must stand a criminal trial.
I watch Fox news to learn how much they know about what they have done & all they talk about is the destruction power of Tomahawk missiles or how North Korea and Iran will be learning from this violation of international law.
I am happy your page is open, happy that you are open minded, happy to hear that you are an activist.
I’d like to ak you if contemplation alone, without action, works or not & where does the work outside of us start?
